B MEETS RIXO
Oh Rixo another one of our true loves, i know we say this a lot but we really do love every one of our brands. But for dresses, Rixo is our main woman... and lets be honest for blouses and skirts too (letting the big fat cat out the bag but their first jumpsuit is coming soon too).
Rixo was created by friends Henrietta and Orlagh just a couple of years ago. They still host sales appointments in their living room, which we love. The girls are so friendly and you know they're just doing it (incredibly well) without a huge fancy office. Plus, its down the road from us so we love this even more! After meeting at Uni and working together at Asos they saw the gap in the market and just knew they had to do it. And thank god they did because what the hell would we wear! Rixo is the perfect go to for weddings, events, parties, wanting to look and feel fabulous - yes i sometimes even float around mine in the house.
They're also perfect pieces to layer up - jeans under dresses, long sleeve tops under blouses, leather jackets and faux furs thrown over the top. We love wearing our Cindy wrap dress open over jeans with a tee, we'll just change this to a polo and fasten her up for winter with this Baum coat over the top. See, multi purpose and without a doubt worth the cost per wear (that's our kind of maths).
CLICKED INTO PLACE
We met at university in October 2011 and just clicked. We were studying Fashion Management at LCF but both have always had an interest in fashion and an evident creative flair. We both worked at ASOS as buyers but saw a huge gap in the market so took the leap of faith and went for it and set up RIXO.
NOTHING TO LOSE
We set up RIXO September 2015. We both had been talking for a long time about starting something together and it was the right time – we had nothing to lose and if we didn’t do it then, then we didn’t know when we would have!
We’d describe Rixo as confident, feminine, original and fun! The prints obviously make it stand out but what also makes us different, is that, although everything is evidently very vintage inspired, it’s modern and wearable… no shoulder pads here!
USP – P FOR PAINT
The USP of our brand is that we hand paint all of our prints. We sit and paint the elements, clean it up on Photoshop, then get samples and confirm the colours/print scale etc. All of our design and sample development is done in our London studio and our collection is produced with incredible suppliers/friends in China – the silk quality there is next to none and we travelled there this summer for two weeks which was an amazing experience.
We are inspired by everything and anything. Botanical studies, the lining of a vintage jacket, travel, culture, icons. Our latest collection ‘Shanghai Chic’ was inspired by the fashions of the East… lots of bamboo, birds, landscapes, exotic flowers. Tigers also feature heavily, alongside rich silks and vibrant reds and greens, as well as Chinese inspired details (piping, button fastenings etc.). It’s one of our favourite collections and we are very proud of it. B – And so you should be. We LOVE this latest Rixo collection, we’ve always been a fan and followed the brand since the start but the prints and shapes in this one are just our ideal. Plus, so versatile to wear, we love layering over jeans and slim polos in winter with ankle boots and a leather jacket thrown on, such as this gorgeous Gestuz number.
We work and live in our townhouse/studio in Fulham! We also host wholesale appointments from here, turning our living room into a little showroom, and the buyers literally come round to our home. Some of our London hidden gems are charity shops, especially on the North End road near us, are amazing! As well as vintage fairs at Alexandra Palace and of course, Portobello Market (not hidden but it’s a gem!).
The hardest part is probably switching off! We eat sleep and breathe RIXO (we joke that it’s our baby!) but that balances out with hearing feedback from customers of how great they feel in the clothes. As well as anytime we’re mentioned in the press, we still pinch ourselves! B – We honestly do feel great in every Rixo piece, the fabrics are so light and feel so nice to wear. Plus, the shapes are always flattering, well worth the investment for the feel good factor we say.
Follow your gut and go for it! As long as you have passion for wha.t you’re doing and believe in yourself, others will too and the positive effect will push you forward!
