B (doesn't) meet Baum und Pferdgarten
Okay so in the spirit of honesty (B transparent, yes one of our aims), being a bigger brand we haven't meet the founders of Baum - as the cool kids call it and we just can't say the full name, especially with our Northern twang.
If you follow fashion, serial killer dramas or are all over Instagram you'll know Danish style has seen a growing presence over the past couple of years. It's just that little bit quirky, playful with print/colour contrasts, and a little edgy but always effortless. Basically, just so bloody good, like you've tried to mix colours, textures and prints but haven't really tried at all. And that's exactly what Baum is.
Look like you're at Copenhagen fashion week everyday, shop BAUM here.
Baum is suddenly big news in Copenhagen and the two founders just won the Brand of the Year award from Elle Denmark a few months ago. Meaning they are, most likely, far too crazy busy. Also being from the UK we buy the collection over here through a sales agency (based in Brixton, not quite Copenhagen). Although Baum did recently invite us to Copenhagen fashion week, but unfortunately we were in the midst of getting this baby up and running for you lovely people (damn you!). One of our life/fashion goals is to attend Copenhagen fashion week and look like a Copenhagen girl - dressed mostly in Baum and Gestuz - so hopefully next season, and we may get the chance to interview them in person.
Until then this is our little bio about the brand, biased as we heart it... a lot.
The brand was founded in 1991 by Rikke Baumgarten & Helle Hestehave, who named it as a play on their surnames... apparently, we can just see more of the Baumgarten bit. They aimed to keep the theme of their brand playful too and add this to their collections through strong colour, clashing contrasts and memorable, recognisable prints. Which we think they do jolly godt (jolly well in Danish).
We think of the brand more for colour, texture and details rather than print, such as this Leopard Faux Fur Jacket, Burgundy PVC Skirt, Shaggy Pink Coat, Jacquard Co-ord and Lime Jacquard Frock Coat.
But when they do a print they do it well. I mean you can't get more fun than this Baum Pony Print Dress, which was all over Instagram fashion bloggers and a complete sell out by the way - we possibly have some of the only ones left in the country, well even the world. The best print and colour, but we love pink ponies, and a perfect one to layer up over jeans and a polo neck for autumn. Same goes for this floral slip dress, layer her up! Another fab print with the vibrant floral really standing out.
Now why are we buying a few more known brands to sit alongside our independents, well we've chosen specially a small few that are newer and offer something different to fit in with our style. To us Baum is newer to the UK and not so know over here. They also offer something a bit more unique than British premium brands of a similar level (no offence Whistles but sick of seeing the same colour palettes and styles every season now). Price is good, product is good and we love a statement style, so basically Baum satisfies a lot of our needs right now! And we need good proper stuff not everyone else has - B unique, B you.
